The old churchyard is the PCC’s responsibility. Much of the maintenance in the old churchyard and around Priest House, a Tudor cottage within it, is undertaken by volunteers. We are fortunate in having some financial support from the Friends of All Saints so we can buy equipment, bulbs and plants.
We have a small team of volunteer gardeners (all retired!) who meet regularly every Wednesday morning from February to November to work in the churchyard. Our main aims are to look after the graves and tombstones and to provide a welcoming and attractive environment for visitors. Those people who visit graves or walk through the churchyard appreciate what we do. Valuable assistance is also given by:- A team from Brentwood Borough Council. They are very supportive and mow the large areas of grass behind and in front of the church.
- Some Young Offenders, by way of reparation under the guidance of a leader, come from time to time to assist with the heavier work.
- Other volunteers who cut the various hedges at the appropriate time for us every year and look after parts of Priest House garden
