Marriage

Congratulations! If you are looking at this page perhaps it’s because you are newly engaged and thinking about arranging your wedding. We are always delighted when couples explore the possibility of being married here in this beautiful Church. We have a Wedding Coordinator, Stella MacKenzie, who is here to help you prepare and answer any questions you may have.

About Marriage

A wedding is one of life's great moments, a time of solemn commitment as well as good wishes, feasting and joy. St John tells us how Jesus shared in such an occasion at Cana, and gave there a sign of new beginnings as he turned water into wine.

Marriage is intended by God to be a creative relationship, as his blessing enables husband and wife to love and support each other in good times and in bad, and to share in the care and upbringing of children. For Christians, marriage is also an invitation to share life together in the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is based upon a solemn, public and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, declared and celebrated in the presence of God and before witnesses.

Who can be married at All Saints?
If you live within the parish boundary of All Saints, Doddinghurst you are entitled to be married at All Saints as this is the Parish Church within the boundary. If you both live outside the Parish but can prove a prior connection you may still be able to marry here, one or both of you should be on the Electoral Roll of the Church for which you must have habitually attended the church for at least six months.

What are the first steps?

Stella is available to answer any questions you may have about the practicalities of holding your wedding at All Saints, so please feel free to contact her on 01277 823146. During January/February each year, Stella holds “Preparation Meetings” for those getting married during the year. At this meeting, Stella will help you with planning the music and hymns, the readings and the flowers you would like at your wedding. The Marriage Service we use at All Saints Doddinghurst comes from the “Common Worship Pastoral Services”. You will also be given a booklet at the meeting, which will prove a useful resource as you plan your wedding. Please be assured that everything that is spoken about regarding your wedding is in strict confidence between Stella and the Priest who will be marrying you.

And finally..
We trust that as you prepare for your wedding day you will find it to be a day filled with the presence of God. We will do everything we can to help you on this journey of preparation.
